From topic to student
Publish
Open the publish link from your course staff. Add topics, or Import yours from earlier years.
Validation
Staff validate topics. Students see the published, validated ones while topic selection is open.
Revise
During topic revision you can still edit your topics (e.g. after comments from staff), but no longer add new ones.
Appointment
Students email you (supervisors in cc) to make an appointment, and should verbally agree on a topic with you before requesting it.

Each request is emailed to you (subject starts with
[Tessy]). Accept or decline it under Requests.Follow up

Composing a jury
Invite
You get a mail when a student asks to defend, and when staff open the jury round. Invite under Defenses; you're on the jury by right.
They answer
One click from the e-mail, no sign-in. You get a mail when someone declines and when the jury is complete. External people: type Name <address>, added as accepted.
Complete
Yellow until there are enough members and the course's rules are met.
Availability
Staff mail you the defense days. Under My availability, drag over the times you can't make, then choose Unavailable or Prefer not.
Schedule
Once published: an e-mail, and a calendar feed that stays up to date.

Supervisors are shown apart: they're not part of the formal jury.
Under the jury: what the course's jury rules still ask ( not met,
a member's research group or level is missing). Once
everything is met the jury shows complete. Rules warn, they don't block.
Research group and level
People give them when they accept or offer. For external members, fill them in on the jury.
Offers
Colleagues can offer to join through a link from staff; you accept or decline. Untick
Colleagues may offer to join to stop them.
My juries
All your juries in one list: your own students' and the others you're a member or the chair of.

Good to know
external
External promotors and supervisors
People outside the VUB (not in the VUB contacts) can be listed on a topic: type them as
Name <address>. They get no e-mails from Tessy and can't sign in. Add a VUB promotor to handle requests; with only external promotors, course
staff do. Ask your course staff if an external colleague needs access.
taken
Taken
Tick Mark the topic as taken when accepting, and no one else can request it.
Leave it unticked to allow more students. You can also mark it taken (or free it again) at any time with
under My topics,
or on a student's page under My students.
Custom topics
Students can enter a topic that isn't listed in Tessy (their own idea, or one published elsewhere) with you as promotor. Course staff check it first; then it reaches you under
Requests, where you answer it like any other.
Editing
Edit your topics while topic publication or revision is open (also under My
topics). Changing a validated topic sends it back to staff for validation.

- Course staff answered a request for your topic, or registered a student on it directly.
- A student withdrew their request.
- A student asks to defend; staff ask you to compose the juries and for your availability.

- The defense schedule, when it changes, and when a defense is withdrawn. Supervisors get the schedule too, for information.
- Invited to someone else's jury: the invitation, with a link to answer without signing in.
